SENIOR THESIS PROJECT

The senior thesis spanned two semesters and served as the culmination of four years of graphic design study. Each student selected a design discipline, wrote a research paper comparing a historical and a contemporary designer whose work exemplifies that discipline, and then designed and produced a book that housed the research. The thesis concluded with an exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery where each student presented a poster that distilled their concept and created a takeaway piece for visitors.

I focused on exhibit design, studying the work of Ray and Charles Eames alongside Ralph Appelbaum. My research explores how exhibit design transforms “four white walls” into an immersive environment for education—one that can engage multiple senses and leave a lasting impression. That idea shaped the book itself: the cover physically unfolds into four white walls, inviting the reader into a learning experience through both form and content.

The accompanying poster reinforces the thesis that learning through experience is the kind that stays with you. As a giveaway, I designed a sleeve to carry a Metro fare card and encouraged visitors to step beyond the gallery and participate in the exhibit experience for themselves, “DC has thousands of exhibits—go to one.”
